Pervaya Obraztsovaya Printing House has its sights set on revolutionizing the book printing market in Russia following the installation of the country’s first KODAK PROSPER 1000 Press.
Pervaya Obraztsovaya Printing House plans to make good use of its parent company’s strong ties with many Russian publishers to open up new markets and revenue streams using Kodak’s Digital Printing Technology.
Get inline to get ahead
Crucial to the deal was the press’s ability to add inline finishing and prior to signing, Pervaya Obraztsovaya Printing House General Director Jakov Grigorevich Soskin put it through its paces with a MULLER MARTINI SigmaLine. He explains: “We wanted to thoroughly test the capability and check the end results and were very impressed with the high quality we achieved. The book blocks produced exceeded our expectations from a quality and business stand-point. Another key reason we chose Kodak was because they understand the market and our business.”
The compact, monochrome, 200mpm KODAK PROSPER 1000 Press offers one-over-one perfecting and is one of the most productive inkjet web presses for 8, 12 and 16 page signatures with a duty cycle of 90 million A4 impressions a month. With an automated Image Quality Management System, it is capable of print quality up to 175lpi on uncoated substrates ranging from 45gsm to 175gsm.
Stand out sizes
But where it stands out in the Russian market, states Mr Soskin, is in its ability to produce the most popular book sizes cost-effectively. “The KODAK PROSPER 1000 Press will enable us to optimize our productivity and reduce our costs. As a result, we will be able to offer the best products in terms of quality, prices, go-to-market and flexibility, he says, especially as it makes the most of the reduction in production costs through a cut in industrial waste.”
The press will be installed in the second quarter of the year but a 2,000 run hard-cover job has already been planned for June.
Fred Kalantari, Managing Director & Vice President Kodak Greater Russia, comments: “There are numerous possibilities this investment opens up for Pervaya Obraztsovaya Printing House thanks to its ability to offer reduced reprint rates, cost-effective short-runs and even test publications with the opportunity to produce a longer run in the future.
He adds: “Our philosophy is always to understand our customer’s needs and try to define a solution from a technical and business stand point that fits their environment. This combined approach creates strong relationships that help continued success in the market place.”
